Self-Defense and Conditioning Benefits
The Authentic Jeet Kune Do Association (AJKDA) mission includes preserving and promoting national quality conditioning to its members (practitioners). As your Chief Instructor, I am personally committed to focusing on two areas: 1. ) Self-defense-to teach “JKD Scientific Streetfighting.” With consistent training, the student will learn to neutralize the opponent within 1-3 moves. This is not a sport. No rules. No referee, no towels. Primary targets are the eyes and groin. Secondary targets are the knees and throat. Other areas include the shin, ribs among others. JKD embraces the principal of the longest weapon to the nearest target.
The student can defend themselves in any range-kicking, punching, trapping and grappling. However, the emphasis is to neutralize the opponent immediately to preempt going to the ground which is typically concrete.
It is an art whereby you “intercept” your opponent. Bruce’s philosophy is that you have a “tool chest.” He was truly the “Einstein” of the martial arts. Only use the tools necessary to neutralize the situation. Other “tools” include the elbows, forearms, kicks, punches, joint locks, sweeps, take downs, trapping hands, and foot traps, etc., We also employ chi sao “energy or sensitivity drills.”
2.) Conditioning-The JKD training is a highly specialized program unlike any other in the world. Power training and the use of force are easy, but total comprehension of all of the skills of JKD is very difficult to achieve. That is because good technique includes quick changes, great variety and speed.
Endurance and stamina are key ingredients. This is why we train utilizing circuit training conditioning. Other qualities include power, balance, good form, body feel, awareness, speed, timing and attitude.
“Scientific Street fighting ” also involves mobility. Therefore, we train on distance and footwork training drills. Other drills include feints, parries, manipulations and evasiveness.
The moves are highly scientific and based upon simplicity and repetition.
Our conditioning techniques include the heavy bag, speed bag, jump rope, kicks, punches, sit-ups, proper stretching, and weight lifting among others. This specialized knowledge and program provides the opportunity for you to get in shape at an accelerated rate. If you are already in good shape, it will take you to the next level of conditioning. Bruce Lee set a world class level conditioning standard. Arguably the best in the history of the world.
“When moving, be like water. Still, be like a mirror. Respond like an echo.”
